The Holy Ordinary with Mark Longhurst

The Holy Ordinary with Mark Longhurst

Thursday, October 24 at 7pm ET

Online

You are warmly invited to join us for an engaging online conversation with Community of the Incarnation member Mark Longhurst, author of The Holy Ordinary, a new book that explores the availability of every person to a contemplative life. Taking inspiration from mystics, modern prophets, and saints, with surprising insights from Christian scriptures, Mark writes about mysticism as a stream of the experiential, flowing from the hearts of those who knew and know God. Through topics such as “How to be contemplative and active” and “Live green like Hildegard of Bingen,” Mark’s book speaks to each person’s need for transformation.

Co-hosted by Adam Bucko, Director of the Center for Spiritual Imagination and Kris Coleman, Program Director, this online event promises to be a space for reflection, inspiration, and community as we gather to explore the sacred in the ordinary moments of life.

"We are all addicted to our own habitual way of doing anything, our own defenses, and, most especially, our patterned way of thinking, or how we process reality." - Fr. Richard Rohr

The Christian contemplative tradition offers a lifelong practice with the potential to transform our way of being in the world. In our new monastic community, we engage with an adapted version of the 12 Steps that is suitable for anyone who is addicted to their own way of thinking (in other words, everyone!) Our 12 Step contemplative practice is a means of ongoing conversion of life and community accountability.

This spring, we are delighted to offer this practice to the public. Join us for individual practices and step work combined with community connection that will take place over the course of five months.
